Trash Bag Monster

Let’s talk trash – single use plastics, excess packaging, straws, chip packets and whatever other trash comes to mind. Where does it go – bundled up and shipped off in shipping containers, dumped in the sea or left on the streets.

We are surrounded by plastics in every-day life, they are in, on and around everything – food, toys, magazines, and to avoid using plastics it takes a tremendous amount of effort, planning and awareness.

Trash Bag Monster is an ongoing participatory project based on our thoughts, worries and feelings about trash. Using collected second-hand soft plastics, I created individual, bespoke brooches while engaged in conversation around a person’s own experiences with trash. The Brooches are made to be worn over the heart, acknowledging my relationship to the person and our ongoing universal problem of TRASH.
